Getting Started

Hosting Domain

DID Name Service
DID Domain

DID Names supports hosting domains registered with other registrars. After an NFT is issued for the domain, it can be used on the Blocklet platform.

This document covers:

  1. Prerequisites
  2. Add the domain you want to host
  3. Update the nameservers for the managed domain
  4. Subscribe

1. Prerequisites#

  • Hosting one or more DID Names follows the same process. This document uses the example of hosting multiple DID Names.
  • The hosted domain must be a second-level domain (e.g., example.com)

2. Add the Domain You Want to Host#

  1. Access the hosted DID Names page: https://domain.didlabs.org/app/user/domains/host
  2. Enter the domain name you wish to host

DID Names offers a CLI tool for bulk importing domains from other providers. See: Using the didnames CLI for Bulk Domain Hosting

3. Verify the Domain Name for Hosting#

This step checks for duplicates and confirms the domain name to be hosted. If everything is correct, click Next.

4. Modify the Nameservers of the Hosted Domain (Optional)#

This step can be skipped for the moment and revisited after deployment to avoid any disruption.

4.1 Log in to your domain registrar

Log in to your domain registrar, locate the domain management page, and find the name server settings. You can use ICANN to look up your registrar.

4.2 Remove Other Nameservers

Set the name server provided by DID Names as the sole server.

4.3 Configure Name Servers using DID Names

Set the nameservers to the server addresses specified on this page and wait for the changes to propagate. Different registrars may have slightly different processes, but most offer user-friendly interfaces. See our guides for modifying nameservers with common registrars: How to Modify Nameservers and DNS Resolution

Similarly, DID Names provides a CLI for managing name servers in bulk. See: Using the didnames CLI to Manage Domains in Bulk

Attention:

  • Because DNS propagation takes time, changes typically do not take effect immediately and can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally.
  • DID Names automatically detects when they become active and notifies users via email and wallet notifications.

If you encounter any difficulties, you can ask for help from the community.

5. Pay and Complete Your Subscription#

Finally, you need to complete the subscription payment. Upon successful payment, a DID Names NFT will be sent to your wallet, allowing you to use the domain name on the Blocklet platform. See Using DID Names for more information.

* Prices are subject to market fluctuation and will be confirmed at the time of payment.
